Meeting for Business
Although most routine and preparatory work of the Meeting is conducted through the standing and special committees, the Meeting community (members and attenders alike) attends Meeting for Worship with Concern for Business on the second Sunday afternoon of most months (third Sunday in July; no meeting in August) to decide how to proceed on recurring and extraordinary matters affecting the entire Meeting.
Although a Meeting member serves as Presiding Clerk (chair) of this gathering, it is the overall membership that is considered to be the final authority of Meeting business.
The Meeting is a member of the larger Baltimore Yearly Meeting, but virtually all decisions affecting Friends Meeting of Washington are made at the monthly business meeting.
Clerk’s Letter
Friends who attend our monthly Meeting for Worship with a Concern for Business are encouraged to consider the Clerk’s letter concerning the spirit and conduct of our business meetings.
